The Hypno Coin Disk illusion -

The Effect:

The Magician removes a business card, showing a Hypno Disk printed on the back. He tells the spectator that he is going to hypnotize them, but don't worry, its safe. Hold out your hand, palm up. Please stare at the disk, don't look away, don't blink. Watch! Do you see it? Do you see the coin floating there?

Yes!

Do you feel it? Do you feel the coin?

Yes, ( A coin falls into their hand ), I feel it...

The Setup:

You need Big Guy's Hypno Coin Disk business card and a coin of your choice. A nickel is perfect. Hold the card as shown in the picture below. Conceal the quarter under the card, held between the thumb and first finger.

The Performance:

Display the card while concealing the hidden coin. Tell them you are going to hypnotize them and perform a miracle. Ask them to hold out their hand, plam up.

Move your hand with the card over their hand. Tell them to stare at the Hypno Disk and don't look away or blink. Just follow your instructions.

Now begin to rapidly move the business card in a circle (see picture below). Remind them to not look away. Ask them if they see the coin floating in the disk? They will say yes. The optical illusion is created by the smooth and rapid circular motion of your hand holding the card.

Once they say they see the coin, make sure that your hand is circling over their palm.

Ask them if they feel the coin. Wait a moment, then drop the hidden coin into their palm. They'll say yes and you'll have performed some real magic!
